FAQ

If you or your spouse have extended health benefits, there may be partial coverage for counselling with an RCC/RSW. This would involve you submitting your receipt to your insurance provider for partial reimbursement of the counselling fee. Please contact your health insurance provider to ask if you have coverage for counselling sessions.

Your appointment time is reserved just for you. Kirsty requires 24 hours notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment. Clients who provide less than 24 hours notice, or miss their appointment, will be charged a cancellation fee of 50%.

Our first appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. My goal is to provide a safe space where you decide how much or little you want to share. You are not obligated to share all the details of your experiences. I may ask where you wish to begin or what brings you to counselling. I am interested in learning if there is something showing up in your life that is disruptive to you, how you cope with these challenges that show up, and what your strengths are. Within the first few sessions, we will make space for a discussion around what your counselling goal(s) is/are, and develop a counselling plan together. With your permission, I will write a therapeutic letter to you after each session to highlight our work together. This also is a way for us to see if we are on track with your counselling goals.

Kirsty works from the following therapeutic modalities: Cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness, narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, and person-centered therapy. The benefits of counselling can include developing new skills, learning new ways to cope and gaining personal insights. Possible risks of counselling can include bringing forth strong emotions or difficult memories. Please be aware that you may refuse specific therapeutic modalities or withdraw your consent to counselling at any time during the counselling process. You are encouraged to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Please be aware that the information you provide in counselling will be kept confidential and cannot be shared with others without your consent with the following exceptions: if there is reason to believe a child is at risk of abuse or neglect, if there is a risk of serious harm to self or others, or when requested by a court of law.

I am not working with complex trauma at this time.
